Trade group pushes for UK ticketing apprenticeship

A ticketing apprenticeship scheme could be set up in the UK following an application from the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR).

STAR, whose members include Eventim and Ticketmaster UK, is one of the trade groups to propose the development of new Apprenticeship Standards to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

The application put forward to BIS was written by Steve Haworth, head of sales and ticketing at the Royal Shakespeare Company, who would chair the standards and development group.

He said the standard would “focus on telephone and front-facing counter sales, customer service and all aspects of ticketing at an entertainment venue, visitor attraction or ticket agency”.

Haworth added: “We believe that this occupation will require rigorous and substantial training of around 12 months.

“We are committed to ensuring that the standard we design will transferable skills which will enable a successful apprentice to perform this role in an employer of any size and in any relevant sector.”

Proposals have also been put forward by groups representing sectors as diverse as sciences, construction and pet grooming. BIS has invited interested parties to comment on the proposals through its website.
