Gametime seeks to score sports deals through former NBA exec

Gametime has appointed former ScoreBig and NBA executive Larry Martin as its senior vice-president business development as it seeks new partnerships within the US sports sector.

Martin moves to the mobile ticketing marketplace after serving as sales vice-president at ScoreBig, which effectively closed last month following a liquidity crisis. Formerly a senior marketing executive at the NBA North American basketball league, Martin will use his experience to pursue new industry partnerships in professional sports.

Gametime offers tickets for teams in all the major sports leagues, and says that its mobile transactions take just nine seconds.

“Larry is a valuable, strategic addition to our team as we look to build the best product to capture the last minute market for live event tickets,” Gametime chief revenue officer Colin Evans said in a statement. “His experience with the NBA and his contacts with teams across all major leagues will be critical as we look to help teams and other event organisers drive optimal utilisation.”

As well as working for the NBA, Martin also spent time as a sports marketing strategy consultant for Acxiom Corporation and was senior director of marketing at the Miami Heat basketball team.

Martin added: “Gametime has built an amazing consumer experience to capture the last minute millennial purchaser on mobile. This opportunity allows me to continue my efforts to change the way sports/entertainment ticketing continues to evolve with technology.

“I am thrilled to join a team of thought leaders who are building a better consumer experience, while providing primary team partners a new distribution channel that can provide an entry point to their own mobile engagement within the venue and game experience.”
