Coventry and Ticketmaster apologise to fans

English football club Coventry City has opted to reintroduce cash turnstiles for two upcoming fixtures after admitting that fans “experienced difficulties” in purchasing tickets through Ticketmaster.

The club – which competes in League One, the third tier of English football – has hired Ticketmaster to serve as its new ticketing provider for the 2016-17 season, which kicked off at the weekend.

However, Tuesday night’s EFL Cup match at home to Portsmouth attracted just 4,976 spectators; the lowest crowd since Coventry started playing matches at the Ricoh Arena.

The club attempted to operate without cash turnstiles for the game, before relenting when large queues formed before kick-off.

Coventry said that the club and Ticketmaster regretted any inconvenience caused to fans.

“The club has teamed up with a new ticketing provider for the 2016-17 season, and although the service is still very much in its infancy, we value our supporters’ feedback and have a commitment to provide our fans with the best match-day experience possible,” Coventry said.

“With that in mind, the club have taken the decision to reintroduce cash turnstiles for the upcoming Shrewsbury and Bury fixtures, alongside the option to purchase tickets online.”
