Germany’s live event promoters the Federal Association of the Event Industry (BDV) and Association of Concert Management (VDKD) have moved to merge organisations to create the joint venture Bundesverband der Konzert- und Veranstaltungswirtschaft (BDKV).
Co-presidents, BDV’s Jens Michow and VDKD’s Pascal Funke, will lead the new Federal Association of the Concert and Event Industry, which is effectively a single professional body for the country’s live entertainment industry.
Funke will also take on managing director duties for BDKV in Hamburg. BDKV will include more than 500 live agencies and organisers.
The live events industry in Germany brings in yearly sales of more than $5bn with 113.5 millions tickets sold.
“For the German event industry this was a really historic day,” said Michow. “The bundling of almost all companies in the industry in one association gives the BDKV considerable clout. Above all, I am delighted to be able to represent the interests of the many classical music organisers and intermediaries, who until now have only been organised in the VDKD.”
Funke added: “I would like to thank Jens Michow, the directors and legal advisers for the effective cooperation of the past months and the members for their trust. Strengthened, we can calmly face the future challenges.”
