Elton John has topped Pollstar’s mid-year report as the highest-grossing world tour of 2019 so far.
His ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour’ has raked in around $82.6m (£65.6m/€73m) for the last four months of the tour’s opening North American leg, as well as the first three weeks of its 2019 run in Europe.
Elton John has so far sold a total of 608,766 tickets, with an average of 14,494 shifted per show. The pop legend’s ticket prices cost an average of $136, with Pink and Fleetwood Mac as the only performers in the top 10 to out-price him at $143 and $144, respectively.
Pink’s Beautiful Trauma comes in a close second with $81.8m, while Justin Timberlake sits third place in world tour earnings for his The Man of the Woods tour, which brought in $75.5m.
Ed Sheeran, who earned the highest-grossing tour of 2018 with more than $429m across 99 shows globally, currently sits in sixth place in 2019 with $63.6m for his continued Divide tour, which began in March 2017 and ends in August.
Sheeran has shifted 733,414 across 18 shows, with ticket prices sitting at an average of $87 each. An average of 48,894 people purchased tickets for each of his shows. In comparison, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which sits two below Sheeran in eighth position, has brought in $57.3m over the course of 88 shows, with a total of 894,820 tickets sold so far in 2019.
Rock legends have also enjoyed a good start to 2019 with Metallica bringing in $69.7m for fourth place, and Fleetwood Mac in fifth with $67.7m.
