BTS film shifts 2.5m tickets

K-pop supergroup BTS’s third feature film has sold more than 2.5 million tickets and raked in $24.3m (£19.9m/€21.9m) from box offices across 5,000 cinemas in 112 territories.

The band’s manager Big Hit Entertainment revealed that the film, Bring the Soul: The Movie, has broken admission and box office records for event cinema.

The BTS movie reached No.9 in the box office chart on opening week in the UK and No.10 in the US.

The South Korean firm has also revealed plans to develop a new “drama production based on BTS universe”, which will debut next year.

Last week, Big Hit Entertainment’s corporate briefing revealed that its revenue in the first half of 2019 has already nearly overtaken the company’s total 2018 revenues at over $166m.

In the same announcement, the entertainment group said it would move to implement a lottery-style ticketing system for BTS concerts. Fans will be required to become a member of the BTS official fan club, which costs $30 plus shipping, to have the chance to buy early-access seats and floor seating.
