Sporting Kansas City renews with SeatGeek

Major League Soccer (MLS) club Sporting Kansas City has renewed its ticketing partnership with SeatGeek.

The move marks the ticketing firm’s first renewal announcement since breaking into the primary ticketing market in 2017.

The club has been using SeatGeek’s tools and technology since it became the official ticketing partner of MLS in 2016 to improve the ticketing experience for its supporters through mobile ticketing and custom ticket management.

Sporting Kansas City chief sales officer Gregg Allen said: “SeatGeek has gone above and beyond as our ticketing partner and we look forward to continuing our partnership. Our fans love using SeatGeek, and we have experienced a new benchmark in collaboration: from working closely with their team on product development to taking part in the Client Advisory Board with other industry leaders around the globe.”

Since signing Sporting Kansas, SeatGeek has announced ticketing partnerships with five additional MLS teams, as well as teams across the NFL, NBA, and English Premier League.

The Seattle Sounders were the second of the league’s teams to make the move to SeatGeek, following Sporting Kansas. Last month, the Sounders announced its move away from SeatGeek to Ticketmaster, while Los Angeles FC did not renew with SeatGeek and has also moved to Ticketmaster.

Of the league’s newest franchises, Nashville FC and Inter Miami went with Ticketmaster, whilst Cincinnati (2019) and Austin (2021) chose SeatGeek. Last month SeatGeek also confirmed a multi-year agreement with the league’s Houston Dynamo.

Danielle du Toit, president of SeatGeek Enterprise, said: “We are so proud of the success we’ve seen through our partnership with Sporting Kansas City and are thrilled to continue it for years to come.

“The past three years have shown what is possible when SeatGeek collaborates with a strong, innovative team and organisation. As our first partner, SKC have a special place in our hearts and set the tone for how we approach client relationships and enterprise partnerships. We are looking forward to the future, where we will continue to provide the best matchday experience for the fiercely loyal SKC fanbase.”

During TheTicketingBusiness Forum 2020, Jeanene Valentine, head of ticketing for new MLS club Inter Miami, explained that SeatGeek offers clubs a “magical” digital ticketing experience that is customer-friendly. She commended the SeatGeek app and labelled their game day as “flawless”, but pointed to Ticketmaster for something more robust and flexible.

SeatGeek’s current league-level ticketing partnership with MLS is up for renewal at the end of 2022.
