NFL in Super Bowl build-up NFT drop

National Football League (NFL) fans will be able to remember their Super Wild Card Weekend for a long time to come, through a commemorative ticket in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT).

This weekend witnessed fans at Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys vs San Francisco 49ers receive a separate commemorative ticket through the NFL NFT Marketplace, in partnership with Live Nation-owned ticketing company, Ticketmaster.

Fans attending the first-ever Monday night play-off game, Los Angeles Rams vs Arizona Cardinals, will also be eligible for the special NFT ticket.

The NFL first introduced the commemorative NFTs last year, with a second drop coming in time for the festive season.

The post-season launch follows the success of the regular season launch, where fans received complimentary NFT tickets through the NFL NFT Marketplace after games had finished. The 100 NFT tickets per team that were placed on sale at this time also sold out within 24 hours.

Single-game buyers, season ticket holders and those that bought their tickets on the secondary market within the NFL ticketing network received and will receive the token. Further ‘Road to the Super Bowl’ NFTs for each participating team are also available for fans to purchase.

NFTs will be released for the Divisional Round, Conference Championships, Super Bowl and eventually the winner of the Super Bowl.

Brendan Lynch, executive vice president of enterprise and revenue at Ticketmaster, said: “Ticketmaster is continually investing in new ways to help our clients engage with fans. It has been really gratifying to see the success of the NFL’s inaugural ticket holder NFT campaign.

“We have no doubt the postseason virtual commemorative ticket release will be as popular as the regular season.”
