Bruno Mars to play first concert at Sydney’s rebuilt Allianz Stadium

Bruno Mars is set to perform the first concert at the new Allianz Stadium in Sydney later this year.

The singer is booked in to perform on October 14 and 15 to help raise the curtain on the newly rebuilt venue.

Sydney’s original Allianz Stadium was knocked down in 2019 and rebuilt with a capacity of 42,500 at a cost of A$828m (£473m/€552m/$592m). The stadium will officially open in September with a triple-header of sporting events including an NRL rugby league game between the Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs, a rugby union match between Australia and South Africa and a friendly between Australia women’s football team and Canada women.

Mars will be the first music act to perform at the venue, and the concert will be produced by Paul Dainty, chief executive of TEG Dainty, which is part of the TEG group.

In a statement to Billboard, Dainty said: “It’s incredibly exciting to welcome audiences back to Allianz Stadium in the heart of Sydney and who better to lead the opening celebrations than the legendary, record-breaking artist Bruno Mars. These opening shows will go down in history as not to be missed.”

As part of its opening, Allianz Stadium will also be holding a free community open day on August 28.
