Hockey India has marked 50 days until the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, with the announcement that tickets sales have started.

The tournament is set to take place between January 13-29 next year and will feature 16 different countries. Hockey games will be played at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium and the newly built Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela.

Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey told news outlet News 18: “The final preparations for the World Cup are underway. We are eagerly waiting to welcome all the participating teams and hockey lovers from around the globe to be part of this historic event.

“The Odisha Government yet again has set a new global standard by providing an incredible venue like the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela which is the heart of Odisha’s hockey belt and features state-of-the-art facilities including more than 20,000-seating capacity. With two venues being used this time, the event is certainly going to be bigger and more exciting than any other hockey tournament.”

Tirkey also presented the first ticket for the Hockey World Cup to Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik yesterday (Wednesday).

Patnaik said on Twitter: “Delighted to receive the first ticket of Odisha Hockey World Cup 2023 from Hockey India president Shri Dilip Tirkey. Hope the fans from all over the world are ready to watch yet another hockey extravaganza in Odisha. Look forward to join you all to cheer our team in action.”

Birsa Munda Stadium will host its first-ever hockey match on the opening day of the tournament, with England taking on Wales on January 13. This will be followed by India playing Spain in the country’s opening match.
