Comedian Russell Brand has postponed the rest of his UK tour following historical allegations of sexual assault.

The stand-up, who has more than 6.6 million followers on YouTube, performed at Wembley Park Theatre on Saturday evening. At the same time, a documentary featuring claims against him, including rape, was being aired on Channel 4.

The Metropolitan Police has since commenced an investigation into the claims, and Brand’s three remaining Bipolarisation tour dates have been postponed. Brand has strenuously denied all allegations made against him.

Brand was due to perform a sold-out show at Windsor’s Theatre Royal this evening, with dates at Plymouth’s The Pavilions and Wolverhampton’s The Civic at The Halls coming later this month. The tour’s promoters said all tickets will be refunded direct from point of purchase.

A statement read: “We are postponing these few remaining addiction charity fundraiser shows, we don’t like doing it – but we know you’ll understand.”

Brand’s current tour, which began in Henley On Thames in August, has already visited eight venues across the south of England.

The comedian has been a household name in the UK for the best part of two decades having achieved fame as a presenter on MTV, Channel 4’s Big Brother and BBC Radio 2. As a stand-up comedian he has sold out major venues such as London’s O2 and Royal Albert Hall, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
