DEAG is entering the Spanish live music market after founding its new Barcelona-based Get Rock Live subsidiary.

The new DEAG business has been set up in collaboration with promoter Pierre Sabbag, who has brought acts such as Ozzy Osbourne and Kiss to Spain. Sabbag has also worked with leading Spanish rock stars such as Extremoduro and Marea.

Germany-headquartered DEAG said its first events in Spain will take place from 2024, with 100 shows planned over its first two years. The business, which runs festivals such as Rock The Ring and Airbeat One, added that successful events which it has organised in its existing national markets will now also be offered in Spain. Synergy effects are also expected in the development of new formats and new locations in the market.

DEAG board member Detlef Kornett said: “DEAG continues to expand successfully in Europe and UK. Spain is a highly exciting market that offers us great growth potential.

“We will gradually expand our portfolio of events in the coming months and years by offering visitors hundreds of concerts and shows, first-class other entertainment and generate all along additional business for the DEAG Group.”

DEAG to bring more events and festivals to Spain

In Spain, DEAG said it has already had positive experiences with Christmas Garden events in Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga and Valencia.

DEAG has also brought in Inma Sepulveda to help lead the project. Sepulveda has been active in the production and execution of major events for over 20 years and has a broad network of contacts to promoters and concert organisers throughout Europe.

Sabbag said: “DEAG is excellently positioned internationally. We want to position concerts events and festivals even bigger and more internationally over time. I am very much looking forward to our very close collaboration.”

DEAG is present in more than 20 markets, including Germany, the UK, Ireland and Switzerland. It is also the owner of ticketing brands such as MyTicket and Gigantic. This year it drew a record attendance of over 800,000 visitors across its four strongest markets – a 40% increase on 2022.

DEAG last month posted a nine-month revenue of more than €213m (£184.2m/$233m), with the entertainment company’s ticketing and service businesses exceeding expectations. Following the financial results, DEAG has predicted that its full-year revenue will be above €300m in 2023.

While the nine-month revenue represents a drop compared to last year’s €235.1m during the same period, it was expected due to DEAG playing catch-up with events following the pandemic in 2022.
