English League One football club Wigan Athletic and Super League side Wigan Warriors have made the switch to Ticketmaster Sport, with the aim of launching a new ticketing system this month.

The partnership will focus on digital fulfilment for tickets, either through the delivery of digital tickets or print-at-home tickets. Fans will be able to set up an account for both the football club and rugby league side, with transactions covering home and away games.

Wigan Athletic previously signed a deal with Advanced to utilise its cloud-based ticketing and fan engagement solution Talent, ahead of the 2019-20 season.

“We’re delighted to partner with Ticketmaster Sport as our new ticketing service provider,” said Ben Goodburn, chairman of Wigan Athletic. “The transition to Ticketmaster represents a key strategic priority for the clubs and for our supporters. We hope this positive action demonstrates that we are listening to our supporters and implementing measures to take the club forward.

“Whilst we know that we have a transitional phase to overcome during the coming weeks, I’m confident that all our fans will benefit from Ticketmaster’s world-class ticketing technology in the long term.”

Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors share the 25,000-capacity DW Stadium (pictured), while Robin Park Arena provides a base to train for the rugby league side, and acts as the home turf for the Warriors’ Academy, Scholarship and Women’s fixtures.

All existing season tickets and tickets already purchased will remain valid, while season ticket-holders will be notified when the two clubs’ new ticketing platform is live. Patrons will be sent a link to the registered email address and mobile phone to update personal details and passwords. A new account will need to be set up if season ticket-holders have not provided up-to-date contact details.

Fans that purchase tickets on a match-by-match basis will need to register for a new Ticketmaster account. It will be a requirement for all fans to sign up for a basic free membership that will allow fans to purchase tickets.

Additionally, fans purchasing tickets and selecting seats at DW Stadium will benefit from interactive seating maps and view from seat functionality.

Kris Radlinski, chief executive of Wigan Warriors, added: “We are excited to be launching a new ticketing system. The new system is well suited for our wider aspirations for the DW Stadium and Robin Park Arena to support our non-match day objectives to deliver a wider range of community-focused events on the Robin Park campus.”
