Taylor Swift is set to break the record for Scotland’s biggest-selling stadium show when she performs at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield on June 7, 8, and 9.

The musician is expected to break Harry Styles’ previous benchmark, who played to just under 70,000 at the venue last year.

The former One Direction member is predicted to lose his record after Edinburgh Council granted organisers permission to increase Murrayfield’s capacity from 67,130 to 72,990.

Swift’s Scotland shows will be part of her highly successful Eras Tour, which has grossed more than $1bn (£792m/€927m) since beginning on March 17 last year.

The dates were unanimously approved by the council’s licensing board this week with the 8.73% capacity increase.

Swift has charged fans a maximum of £660 to attend her shows on the tour but those willing to spend more have had to part with as much as £7,892 for resale tickets.

Hotels have also increased their rates in line with the demand and more than 20 around the city centre are already sold out over the three dates.

The popstar spoke of her fondness for Scotland last year, describing it as “a really special place”.

“Last time I was there the crowd was amazing and I felt like we really connected,” she said.
