Viagogo customers face Euro 2016 reselling prosecution – report

Hundreds of Viagogo customers face prosecution in France for illegally reselling Uefa Euro 2016 tickets, according to a report in the Daily Mirror UK newspaper.

Tick Tech News reported earlier this month that police raided a hotel room being used by Viagogo to allegedly distribute tickets to people who had bought tickets through the online marketplace. Uefa, European football’s governing body, filed a criminal complaint after the raid.

The Mirror report said that prosecutors have since checked the details of every ticket so they could trace people trying to cash in illegally, and Uefa are understood to be considering further action.

Gregory Lepesqueux, Uefa legal counsel, claimed that Viagogo did not give buyers information about where they would sit, potentially leading to safety risk if rival supporters were placed next to each other.

The Mirror reported that a source close to the French investigation said: “There were a lot of tickets from all over. And we know who was trying to sell those tickets.”
