Dons to stick with loyalty priority for cup final

Scottish Premiership football club Aberdeen have expressed regret towards fans who attended their Betfred League Cup semi-final but may miss out on tickets for the competition's final.

Dons manager Derek McInnes said after the semi win over Morton that all the fans who had travelled to Hampden Park should be able to return to the national stadium for the final against Celtic, but the club's board has decided to give priority to those who score highest on a loyalty points system introduced three years ago.

The first tranche of tickets will be made available from November 5 to those who have attended the most Dons matches since July. The remaining tickets will also go on sale first to fans who meet certain criteria.

The club said that any supporters who were at the semi but may be in danger of missing out will get a ticket for the final if they purchase a mid-season ticket for Pittodrie before November 7.

Club spokesman Dave Macdermid said: “The loyalty points system was introduced to deal with situations such as these. We appreciate there may be some fans who were at the semi who won’t have enough loyalty points.

“We feel the plans we have put in place are the only way to ensure fans who regularly attend our games have the chance to be at the cup final.”
