Ticketmaster seals SMG Europe partnership

Ticketmaster is to replace CTS Eventim as the official ticketing partner of SMG Europe, one of the continent's biggest operators of entertainment and sports venues.

The deal is set to begin in 2018 when Eventim's deal expires, and will cover SMG's properties, such as the Manchester Arena, First Direct Arena Leeds and Metro Radio Arena Newcastle in the UK and European venues such as the König-Pilsener-ARENA and Wroclaw Stadium.

SMG, which has been partnered with Eventim since 2013, has collaborated with Ticketmaster on the development of the  Bristol Arena, which is to open in 2018.

“I am delighted that the successes in project collaboration will be widened into an enlarged relationship with Ticketmaster as a strategic ticketing partner in due course,” said John Sharkey, SMG Europe’s executive vice-president of European operations.

Under the terms of the deal, SMG Europe will also appoint one of Ticketmaster’s platforms as its official resale marketplace.

Ticketmaster UK managing director Andrew Parsons said: “SMG Europe and Ticketmaster share the same ambitions: understand our audience, provide a premium service to promoters, sell tickets fast and, ultimately, get more tickets into the hands of fans. As such, we are thrilled to announce what will no doubt be a fruitful and enjoyable partnership.

“Our experienced team look forward to providing Ticketmaster’s best-in-class services to SMG venues across the UK yet again.”
