Spektrix provides digital presence for Hull UK City of Culture 2017

Hull UK City of Culture 2017 has partnered with Spektrix, the cloud-based box office management platform, to deliver its digital presence.

The platform, hull2017.co.uk, allows visitors and residents to book tickets for thousands of events at more than 100 venues in one place.

Hull UK City of Culture 2017 is a 365-day programme of cultural events and creativity inspired by the city. Hull secured the title in November 2013 and is only the second city to earn the label, and the first in England.

The Culture Company was set up to deliver the Hull 2017 programme and is an independent organisation with charitable status. It has raised £32m (€37m/$41m), with over 70 partners supporting the project, including public bodies, trusts and foundations and local and national businesses.

Using the Spektrix eCommerce, CRM and analytics technology, along with support from agency MagneticNorth, the site has seen record levels of sales and engagement since its launch, with eight million page visits from 1.2 million unique users.

The Hull 2017 platform was created with the ambition of highlighting the city’s commitment to a digital-first cultural strategy.

David Watson, head of digital at Hull 2017, said: “Our ambition has always been to create a product that would bring together the cultural offering across the city into a single online destination.

“Additionally, we wanted to go that one step further and offer the ability for customers to book multiple events across multiple venues – all in a single transaction. This came with its own challenges as it had never been done before in quite the same way and was a huge technical undertaking from start to finish.

“Collaborating with Spektrix and MagneticNorth has allowed us to overcome many challenges and deliver a product which I’m truly proud of and more importantly, will support the cultural sector of Hull and the sub-region.”
