Viewpoint: Inside a ticketing business in the current climate

Swiss cloud-based ticketing solution provider Ticketino remains confident the majority of its events can be rearranged for another date as the live industry goes dark amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Its optimism lies in the current situation of 82 per cent of its ticketed events being postponed rather than cancelled.

During the live events lockdown, Ticketino maintains that its goal is to supply as many fans as possible with content to maintain interest and anticipation for future events.

It said: “Even if this does not immediately trigger many ticket purchases, we would like to continue to raise awareness of Swiss events and support local organisers. We are convinced that our event industry will overcome the crisis and the event business will soon.”

What has Ticketino’s experience been so far in the current climate?

Assessment of the event market in Switzerland

It cannot be denied that Swiss organisers are suffering from the current unprecedented situation. However, it is positive that only 18 per cent of the events were cancelled without replacement. The majority of these were time-related events such as carnival events.

In these individual cases, the Ticketino team has done everything it can to support the organisers concerned in processing ticket purchases. The goodwill and solidarity on the part of the ticket buyers, which is not taken for granted, is also encouraging.

Organisational management of the current challenges

At the beginning of the restrictions, the Ticketino team did everything possible to optimise existing processes even further and to handle the support tasks incurred through standardised processes. This is to ensure that all postponements, remittances and inquiries from unsettled organisers and ticket buyers can be processed as efficiently, quickly and correctly as possible.

In order for this to succeed, we also need your cooperation. We would therefore like to ask organisers and ticketholders to adhere to the given processes or to send any queries in writing to info@ticketino.com.

Business development and sales figures

In the first week, following the ban, large-scale events for over 1,000 people, ticket sales remained relatively stable. The focus on small and medium-sized events turned out to be a clear advantage at this point.

Since the ban on events of all kinds was announced, sales have clearly decreased. Ticketino is in direct contact with the organisers and is trying to show viable solutions.

In addition, the Ticketino team would like to promote events from late summer despite the current situation. It is still our goal to supply as many event fans as possible with our content and to maintain interest and anticipation for future events.

Even if this does not immediately trigger many ticket purchases, we would like to continue to raise awareness of Swiss events and support local organisers. We are convinced that our event industry will overcome the crisis and the event business will soon.

Insight into the Ticketino office

The Ticketino office is empty with just two out of 25 people in its office in Zurich. Most of the employees are working from home.
