Today’s (Thursday’s) Primavera Sound Madrid opening day has been cancelled due to safety concerns around an adverse weather forecast.

Organisers of the festival revealed yesterday evening that the first day had been cancelled due to the “persistent severe weather experienced in recent weeks that has affected the pre-production of the festival” and the heavy storms predicted for this afternoon in the Spanish capital.

In a statement, Primavera Sound said that it will continue to open its doors in the Ciudad del Rock in Arganda del Rey tomorrow and on Saturday.

Yesterday’s performances at Cívitas Metropolitano in the evening went ahead as planned but with a delayed opening due to the weather. Artists such as Jake Bugg, Confidence Man and Pet Shop Boys performed at the stadium.

Day tickets for Thursday will be valid for Friday or Saturday, and if the tickets are not used on the two remaining days, the day ticket will be refunded automatically following the conclusion of the festival.

British band Blur were set to perform on the opening day, but will now take to the stage at La Riviera tonight exclusively for Primavera Thursday and full ticket-holders.

Primavera Sound added: “We apologise for any inconvenience this situation may cause and thank you for your support.”
