Europa League-bound Arsenal slash ticket prices

Arsenal have cut some season tickets prices by around 10 per cent as the club prepares for its first season without Uefa Champions League football in 20 years.

In correspondence sent to existing gold member season-ticket holders, the club confirmed a price reduction and a freeze for domestic competitions.

Gold season tickets include admission to all 19 home Premier League matches and the first seven home cup matches in European competitions and the FA Cup, subject to match categorisation.

While the Gunners sold 99.3 per cent of Premier League tickets during 2016-17, empty seats were spotted at the Emirates Stadium in the closing weeks of the season. With their quest for a Champions League qualification spot ending in failure, Arsenal will instead play in the Europa League during 2017-18.

Arsenal said: “We have previously announced that there will be no increase to general admission pricing for Premier League, Emirates FA Cup and League Cup games in season 2017-18.

“The club has always considered that pricing for the Europa League would be different from the Champions League so we have reviewed our approach for next season and have applied a discount on your season ticket for the Europa League element.

“Your season ticket will continue to include admission to all 19 home Premier League matches and the first seven home cup matches in European competitions and the Emirates FA Cup, subject to match categorisation held at Emirates Stadium.”

The reduction was not universally welcomed, with the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust (AST) suggesting that tickets should have been priced differently.

“We welcome the reduced pricing level set for the Europa League but are concerned that the early group matches have been included in the season ticket,” a spokesperson for the AST told the Evening Standard newspaper.

“The club will now need to improve the ticket exchange and incentives to use it to ensure there aren’t 20,000 empty seats at every game.”

The AST had proposed that group games be priced at £10 and £20 and put on general sale, as Arsenal do for EFL Cup games.
