AFL slashes finals ticket prices

Thousands of tickets for this year’s Toyota AFL Finals Series in Australian rules football are to be reduced in price by more than 25% compared to last year.

Entry-level tickets for the first two weeks of finals in September will be the cheapest they have been since 2001, after the AFL said adult seats at all venues would cost Aus$35 (£20/$26), down by as much as $13 compared to 2015.

Entry-level reserved seating for the preliminary finals has also been reduced to $65 at all venues.

However, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said the price of several finals ticket categories – including some at the AFL Grand Final – has been increased to cope with rising costs.

“For the past two seasons we have elected to keep all prices on hold at 2013 levels, and our commitment to affordability continues with the introduction of a reduced entry-level ticket in weeks one to three,” McLachlan said.

“It is reality that the costs of holding matches continue to rise and we hope the impact of increasing the price of some ticketing categories is minimised with a significantly lower national entry level price.

“We believe the price of all seating categories represents excellent value and we expect fans to vote with their feet.”
