Bears’ slump leads to attendance drop

The Chicago Bears’ nightmare 2017 NFL American football season has led to a major dip in attendances and demand for tickets.

With the team having now won just two of 11 games, it was reported that as few as 48,000 spectators turned up for the Thanksgiving weekend visit of the Tennessee Titans – which they lost – despite 59,500 tickets having been sold for the game at the 61,500-capacity Soldier Field.

According to CBS Sports, the Bears had 7,532 unused tickets in Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings, 5,360 unused tickets in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, 4,816 unused tickets in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions and 2,055 unused tickets in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

“I couldn’t tell a huge difference,” receiver Cameron Meredith told reporters after the Titans game. “Chicago fans are great. They came out and supported and stayed until the end. It felt like a big crowd at the end of the game when it came down to it. I’m appreciative of all our fans and I’m glad they stuck with us.”
