Capitals scrap PDF tickets

The Washington Capitals have become the first NHL ice hockey team to scrap the use of PDF print-at-home tickets.

The franchise told fans that only its mobile ticket solution, STH cards, and traditional paper tickets will be honoured during the 2016-17 season.

The team said it hopes the move will streamline the ticketing process and provide better intelligence about fan attendance.

While the Capitals have become the first NHL team to outlaw PDF tickets, it is a move that has already been made by a number of franchises from other major leagues.

The New York Yankees MLB baseball team was heavily criticised when it announced an end to PDF tickets earlier this year “so as to further combat fraud and counterfeiting of tickets”, while still allowing tickets to be resold through its partner Ticketmaster. The Capitals will also allow resales through the same company.
