Facebook Events app now on Android

Facebook’s standalone Events mobile application has launched on Android, two months after it became available for iOS users.

'Events From Facebook' allows users to select the types of event categories that interest them, which will shape the recommendations they receive from the app.

Its home feed brings users information on events their friends are interested in and events they are already connected to, as well as quick lists for specific days.

Users can integrate their phone's calendar with the app and also opt-in to get updates if details about an event are changed.

The iOS app, which launched in October, has not been a huge success, oscillating between No.250 and No.500 on the US social networking apps chart.

Facebook said: “All the things you love about events on Facebook are still the same but with this app you can have it all in one place. See the latest events activity, discover new things to do with friends and quickly get to event info. Events works seamlessly with Facebook, so your friends can see what you're interested in and what you've invited them to, even if they don't have the app.”

Meanwhile, Facebook’s main app is this week to make tickets available through its Recommendations facility, according to the CNN news channel.

Through integrations with Eventbrite and Ticketmaster, users can buy tickets, register for events and get merchandise on the platform.

The Recommendations tool offers advice on services and restaurants, as well as encouraging users to ask for endorsements from their circle of friends.
