Fans pounce on Wales tournament tickets

Ten thousand tournament tickets have already been snapped up by fans of the Wales national football team ahead of the qualifying matches for the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The ticket packages cover all of Wales’ five home games against Austria, Georgia, Moldova, the Republic of Ireland and Serbia. The packages have been sold to club members in four staggered phases according to membership eligibility and are not on sale to the general public.

The final batch of tickets for Wales Supporters Club members went on sale on Tuesday, with the Football Supporters’ Federation of Wales (FSF Cymru) saying that sales so far were “a good sign”.

Interest in the national team has been stoked by Wales’ run to the semi-finals of the Uefa Euro 2016 national team tournament in France, where the team lost to eventual winners Portugal.

Wales will kick off the qualifying campaign for the World Cup against Moldova on September 5 at Cardiff City Stadium.

“It’s a sign not only of the team playing well in the Euros, but it’s also coupled with the Football Association of Wales doing wonders and keeping prices low,” said FSF Cymru spokesman Paul Corkery.

“For 10,000 fans to be buying tickets for all five games so far in advance, with some not taking place until next year, it is very encouraging.”
