Irish fans urged to avoid secondary market ahead of NZ game

The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) has stressed that fans should only try to buy tickets for tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) rugby union match between Ireland and New Zealand from official sources.

Ireland claimed an historic 40-29 victory over the All Blacks on November 5 in the US city of Chicago, and the result has led to an increased clamour for tickets to tomorrow’s clash at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.

The Irish Independent newspaper reports that tickets available for between €25 and €120 when they first went on sale last year are now being sold for between €375 and €800 on the secondary market.

The IRFU urged fans to stick to trustworthy sources when buying or risk having their tickets cancelled.

IRFU communications director Stephen McNamara told the Irish Independent: “When the IRFU becomes aware of tickets being sold above face value, we follow up with the original purchaser, where sufficient information is available to identify them, and request that they desist from the practice, or their ticket will be cancelled.”
