Report into OCI ticketing ‘complete’

An independent report into the Olympic Council of Ireland’s (OCI) role in a ticketing scandal during the Rio 2016 summer Olympic Games has been completed, according to the Irish Independent.

The OCI appointed financial services company Deloitte in September to conduct a review.

“A draft report has been received by the OCI from Deloitte. It will be examined by the executive board at their next meeting on Thursday,” an OCI spokesperson said.

As reported by TickTechNews.com yesterday (Wednesday), John Delaney has become the first OCI board member to resign in the wake of the ticketing controversy.

OCI president Patrick Hickey has been charged over allegations of wrongdoing in relation to the distribution of tickets for the Olympics. Hickey, who is one of 10 people to have been charged, denies the allegations, and might not face a trial until early 2018.

Delaney added in a statement that he was “never active in the day-to-day running of the OCI” and that he has “fully engaged and co-operated with investigations being carried out by Grant Thornton who were appointed to review ticketing arrangements and Deloitte, whose brief is to examine governance issues within the OCI”.

The report is expected to include recommendations on governance, with Deloitte having engaged with members of the OCI executive committee, as well as OCI member associations, Sport Ireland, the European Olympic Committee and the International Olympic Committee.
