Rio update – August 16

Ipswich Town football club owner Marcus Evans is among four men wanted by Brazilian authorities after a Brazilian judge ordered their arrest over the Irish Olympic tickets scandal.

The head of The Hospitality Group (THG) is wanted along with three other executives over the company’s part in alleged touting of Olympic Games tickets in Rio de Janeiro.

None of the four is believed to be in Brazil and police there have said they will pursue the matter with Interpol.

THG said the allegations against it were “entirely without foundation” and that it would be “vigorously defending all charges that have been brought”.

Last week Brazilian police detained THG’s Dublin-based director Kevin Mallon, accusing him of involvement in illegal ticket reselling at the Olympics.
