Secondary tickets for World Series rocket in price

Tickets for Major League Baseball’s World Series are set to smash records, with fans of the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians having waited generations for their teams to win the sport’s biggest prize.

The Cubs are hoping to win their first World Series since 1908, while the Indians have not won the top trophy since 1948.

On Sunday morning, the average ticket sold on secondary ticketing website StubHub for games three, four and five of the series at Chicago’s Wrigley Field had a price of more than $3,000.

According to US sports broadcaster ESPN, one customer bought four seats in a bullpen box along the first-base line for Game Five for an eye-watering $17,950 per ticket.

Incredibly though, that was not the highest transaction on World Series tickets on StubHub. A fan snapped up four tickets in the first row behind the Cubs’ dugout for Game Seven of the series at Cleveland’s Progressive Field for an extraordinary $24,500 each, including fees.

There is a chance that Game Seven will not be necessary, in which case the customer will receive a refund.
