StubHub supports clamp-down on ‘bots’

StubHub

Secondary ticketing provider StubHub supports efforts to clamp down on so-called ‘bots’ that snap up tickets and post them on re-selling websites at an inflated value.

As reported by TickTechNews.com last week, the UK government is considering an amendment to existing legislation that would clamp down on bots, which have become a focus of increasing frustrations in the music and entertainment event-hosting sector.

“StubHub supports legislation to tackle bot misuse,” StubHub told Complete Music Update in a statement. “The misuse of these programmes harms all aspects of the ticketing industry, most importantly fans. We have consistently supported anti-bots legislation and recently gave evidence to the US Senate Commerce Committee on this subject.”

StubHub acknowledged that the bots represent “one of the biggest issues that the ticketing industry faces”.

However, it argued that more needs to be done beyond law amendments.

“Legislation alone cannot solve this,” the company added. “Professor Waterson’s review into the secondary ticket market concluded that event organisers and primary ticketing companies need to develop better technology in the fight against bots, which we fully support.”
