Ticketek offers refund after AFL criticism

Ticketek has agreed to refund service and handling fees to fans who bought tickets for this weekend’s Australian Football League (AFL) semi-final between Adelaide Crows and Sydney Swans after a dressing down from the league’s chief executive.

Ticketek, the official ticketing partner of the AFL, admitted this week that glitches in its online service led to long delays and website time-outs for fans who logged in to buy tickets for the game.

The problems led to a backlog which also caused issues for Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs fans booking tickets for the second semi-final.

The refund, which applies only to those who bought tickets for the first game, will be processed within 48 hours, according to the AFL.com.au website.

“The AFL was extremely disappointed for our fans today, and made this clear to Ticketek,” AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said.

“I personally spoke to Ticketek, the SCG and the MCG to express the frustration of our fans.

“The decision to refund the service and handling fees on every transaction from tickets sold today to AFL, Crows and Sydney members is a good gesture from Ticketek this afternoon.”
