UFC sales hit in Las Vegas

Ticket prices and saturation of events involving star Conor McGregor have been suggested as reasons for poor sales ahead of this weekend’s Ultimate Fight Championship (UFC) 202 event in Las Vegas.

As many as 14% of the T-Mobile Arena’s 20,000 seats are reported to be unsold, with the greatest availability remaining in the most expensive areas close to the front.

While it was hoped that Irishman McGregor’s involvement would lead to yet another sell-out, local resellers believe demand has been affected by inflated ticket prices.

Speaking to the ESPN website, Roger Jones of Vegas Tickets said his company is reselling the cheapest seats, priced at $365, for just $250, while $2,950 tickets are down to $1,800.

Jones also suggested the T-Mobile Arena, a standalone venue not tied to a casino, is part of the problem as those who want premium tickets are able to reserve them ahead of time.

“It’s affecting everything in this arena, including concerts,” Jones told ESPN. “If you are Turner Construction, a big company here, you’ve already purchased your suite. Even a guy who has a business with decent presence in Las Vegas isn’t looking around for seats at the last minute because he already got club-seat rights.”

Another factor is thought to be a slump in the number of McGregor fans travelling over from his native Ireland. This will be the fourth time that McGregor has fought in Las Vegas in 13 months.
