Adele gig hit by credit card scan failure

Adele fans in Toronto were left furious after problems with credit card scanners caused them to miss the start of her concert in the Canadian city.

The Toronto Sun newspaper reported that queues of more than 1,000 people formed at the Air Canada Centre due to a faulty system that could not scan cards. Fans affected were told to wait in line at the box office for a paper ticket, although a lack of planning meant that queues were chaotic.

When tickets went on sale in December, Ticketmaster announced it wanted to limit scalping and put into place a system of credit-card entry.

One fan who missed the start of the show told the newspaper: “Each transaction seemed to need to be reviewed by one manager and each transaction took a ridiculously long time. Paper forms were filled out and brought back for signature in the back office and then eventually tickets were printed. No one from Ticketmaster ever came to talk to the line. No one ever came up with a solution.

“I think they should refund money to those who missed a major part of the show and had their evenings turned into chaos and a huge hassle. I would never want to buy paperless tickets again.”
