AEG Ogden awarded new deal to run celebrated Brisbane centre

Venue management company AEG Ogden has been reappointed to manage the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC), the Australian venue which was recently voted the world’s best convention centre.

The five-year deal, which will run from July 2017 with an option to extend until 2027, was agreed with the Queensland Government.

AEG Ogden, which operates venues throughout Australia, Asia and the Middle East and is a joint venture between AEG Facilities and Australia-based interests, has managed BCEC since its opening in 1995. The centre, which hosted the 2014 G20 Leaders Summit, was recently voted The World’s Best Convention Centre by the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC).

“The re-appointment of AEG Ogden as managers heralds an exciting new era for the centre, shaping a future BCEC and building on 21 years of experience excellence and culture of innovation with a strategic plan for growth to enhance our industry leadership,” said Bob O’Keefe, BCEC general manager.

BCEC has hosted 18,000 events and 14 million guests since it was opened 21 years ago. It is also the home venue of the Brisbane Bullets National Basketball League (NBL) team.

BCEC said it expects strong future growth having securing 140 new conventions for Brisbane during the 2015/16 financial year with 1,400 future bookings through to the year 2029 bringing more than 900,000 guests and an added economic benefit of A$1bn ($745.0m/£585.0/€695.0m).

“Bob O’Keeffe and his team have been committed to providing world-class and innovative service over many years, culminating in winning the most prestigious award possible in the highly competitive business events industry earlier this year,” said Harvey Lister, AEG Ogden chairman and chief executive.
