Yankees surge after Rodriguez announces retirement

Ticket prices for the New York Yankees’ game against Tampa Bay Rays this Friday have rocketed by 500% following the announcement that it will be legend Alex Rodriguez’s final game.

Rodriguez, who joined the Yankees in 2004, is to retire from Major League Baseball following the match at the age of 41.

Immediately following Rodriguez’s announcement, the current average listing price went up from around $76 to $450, according to data from TiqIQ, the event ticket search engine.

The most expensive ticket on offer was a seat in the Legends section of Yankee Stadium costing $17,000, which normally go for about $400.

The lowest price is around $85, around five times greater than the $16 ahead of the news. However, that rise was far less than the 1000% of get-in price when fellow Yankee Derek Jeter retired in 2014, according to TiqIQ.
