Miami Marlins, the North American Major League Baseball (MLB) team, has had to backtrack on a deal offering reductions in ticket prices depending on the performance of its star player, Giancarlo Stanton, in this week’s Home Run Derby.
The team advertised a deal whereby ticket prices for their remaining games this season would be knocked down by a percentage point for each home run scored by Stanton at Petco Park in San Diego.
The hitter went on to score a record 61 home runs, shattering the single-night mark of 41.
Despite the marketing headlines screaming about the deal offered by the Marlins, the fine print actually indicated a “maximum discount of 25% off regular pricing”.
However, Marlins team president David Samson has suggested a way may be found to mark Stanton’s achievement.
“What Giancarlo did was so cool that we are working on an additional offer,” Samson said. “We’re thinking about picking a game and offering 61% off.”
