Napoli clampdown on ticket touts sees arrests at match

A clampdown on touting at Italian Serie A club Napoli led to two arrests and more than 50 tickets being seized outside its San Paolo stadium over the weekend.

According to football website 90 Min, the club and the police have formed an “iron pact against so-called secondary ticketing” ahead of Napoli’s much-anticipated Uefa Champions League clash with Real Madrid in March.

The authorities said seizures were made as the names on the tickets did not correspond with those who presented them at the entrance turnstiles ahead of the game between Napoli and Pescara.

TickTechNews reported earlier this month that fans reacted with fury when €50 (£43/$52) tickets for the Madrid game soon sold out, but were almost immediately being placed on resale sites for up to 200 times face value. Ticket vendor TicketOne promised that anyone attending the game with tickets that did not bear their name would be refused entry.

At the time, TicketOne general manager Amedeo Bardelli said: “Napoli, with us, has never allowed the name change of season tickets and tickets. The ticket is impossible to sell on the secondary ticketing sites because you must change the name to use it, which you cannot do.

“Any site that does things like that is offering a scam. The purchase times are longer compared to a concert ticket for this.”
