Tottenham to consult FA and police over Millwall ticket allocation

Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur will seek the advice of its local Safety Advisory Group and the Football Association before deciding how many tickets to allocate League One club Millwall for the FA Cup quarter-final tie between the clubs amid fears of trouble, the Telegraph reports.

Following a complaint from Leicester City to the FA over the “abuse, provocation and intimidation” their fans suffered in the Cup defeat at Millwall on Saturday, Tottenham is seeking guidance to avoid a similar outcome.

FA Cup rules allow for an away allocation of up to 15 per cent of the home stadium, although that number is subject to approval from the local Safety Advisory Group, which is made up of the police, council, fire brigade and club.

White Hart Lane, Tottenham’s home ground, has been reduced to 31,500 this season due to the work on the new stadium. This could have an impact on the number of tickets allocated to Millwall.

The FA is aware of the history between the clubs and will be involved in talks over the kick-off time with the Metropolitan Police, Tottenham, Millwall and, if the tie is picked for television, broadcasters.

In 2001, Tottenham met Millwall in a pre-season friendly in which violence between the two sets of fans ensued before and after the game. There were also reports of a group of Tottenham fans attacking the Caulkers Pub in Bermondsey. It was claimed that 30 police officers and three police horses were injured during the day, with one man being taken to hospital with knife wounds.
