Live Nation Spain partners with Riff to promote local artists

Live Nation Spain has entered into a strategic partnership with Spanish promoter Riff Producciones to help local talent reach international stardom.

The deal will see Live Nation, the entertainment giant, benefit from its new partner’s local experience on the ground, while Riff will gain access to the expansive reach of Live Nation.

Between the two entities, local artists will be provided with a powerful support system to grow in international markets, especially in the US and the rest of Europe.

Robert Grima, president of Live Nation, according to Spanish promoters’ association APM. said: “Our priority is to support national talent, and we hope this alliance will contribute to the development of a more powerful ecosystem for these artists.”

Grima also said that Riff is the “fastest-growing company” in Spain’s booking and promotion business.

Andalusia-based Riff, which was founded in 1994 by director Carlos Espinosa, has worked with a host of local and international talents, while also promoting several festivals, including I Like Festival and Eutopía in Cordoba, Directos al Sur in Granada and Blues Cazorla in Jaén.

It has brought several international stars to Spain, including Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Mark Knopfler and Iron Maiden.

Espinosa said that a strategic partner like Live Nation was a “luxury” in an increasingly global market.

Meanwhile, Live Nation Spain was last week fined €15,000 ($16,200/£13,000) for failing to refund AC/DC fans angry that Axl Rose was selected to front the band.

The Spanish consumer group, Facua, alleged that Live Nation Spain withheld refunds and successfully argued the promoter breached Andalusian law by closing the refund window after just three days and supposedly ignoring some ticket holders’ requests for reimbursements.
