Former Spektrix COO Penn takes major AR role

Former Spektrix chief operating officer Libby Penn has taken up the same role at augmented reality firm Blippar.

Penn will lead Blippar’s global operations, while overseeing the move to a SaaS structure for its integrated augmented reality creation, publishing and advertising platform.

Penn is the former COO of ticketing and CRM software company for the entertainment sector Spektrix. The firm processed more than £350m in ticket sales per year and Penn delivered a sustained 40 per cent year-on-year growth in the UK.

While at Spektrix, Penn also lead the launch of the company’s US presence in New York, driving client acquisition and team development.

Ambarish Mitra, Blippar chief executive and co-founder, said: “Libby is a results-oriented strategic leader with a strong track record across digital and SaaS development.

“Libby has the prowess to implement our vision for the business and achieve our long term goals, as well as the experience and passion to drive Blippar forward as the industry standard.”

Penn left Spektrix last November, with the company’s co-founder Michael Nabarro saying she felt it was “the right time to seek a new challenge”.

She was awarded Executive of the Year at TheTicketingBusiness Awards 2017, recognising her success in developing Spektrix.

Penn said: “As a pioneer in the AR market, Blippar is well positioned to lead the industry into its next phase of growth, and to drive the adoption of AR experiences across multiple sectors. I look forward to joining the Blippar team on this exciting journey.”
