Football Australia has announced today (Monday) that the women’s national team will face Uzbekistan at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium in February, as part of the AFC Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 Asian Qualifiers.

The match will take place on February 28, with tickets on pre-sale for Football Account holders today. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public on Wednesday via Ticketmaster.

Prices will start at A$20 (£11/€12/$13) for juniors, $A25 for concessions, A$35 for adults and $A90 for a family ticket.

The CommBank Matildas will play two matches – home and away – in February’s FIFA Women’s International Window, in Round 3 of the Asian Qualifiers. The series will begin on February 24 in Uzbekistan, before heading to Melbourne for the return game on February 28.

“In 2023 we witnessed the special connection between the CommBank Matildas and the Australian public with 11 straight sold-out home matches and record broadcast audiences,” said Football Australia chief executive James Johnson.

“We are confident that we will build on that connection in 2024 and this fan fervour will be a vital factor when we welcome the team for the first home international of the year against Uzbekistan.

“The fierce backing of Victorians was evident in 2023 and we are looking forward to seeing them, and fans from across the country, come out again in full force in another pivotal match for the CommBank Matildas.”

He added: “We are pleased to once again have the Victorian Government as a partner through its tourism and events company, Visit Victoria, as they continue to host world-class football events providing Australians with the opportunity to participate in historic moments.”

The winner of the two-leg tie will become one of Asia’s two representatives for the Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

Marvel Stadium boasts a capacity of more than 55,000.
