The Australian Football League (AFL) has announced a price freeze on general admission tickets for all matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Marvel Stadium for the 2024 season.

The move marks the sixth year in a row that tickets will remain the same price for games in Melbourne, with adults costing A$27 (£14/€16/$18), concessions A$18 and children A$5. Kids under four will continue to be allowed in for free.

Additionally, the family ticket – which will consist of two adults and two children for A$54 – will be available for all home and away season games at both the MCG and Marvel Stadium. The family ticket option was initially trialled before being implemented across 2022 and 2023.

The AFL broke its all-time attendance record with 8.13 million fans attending matches in 2023. It was also the most well-attended sport in Australia, followed by the National Rugby League (NRL).

“More than 8.13 million fans attended a game last season, our biggest season ever and with the 2024 season 24 days away, momentum is quickly building,” said AFL executive general manager, customer and commercial, Kylie Rogers.

“The price freeze and family ticket are part of our commitment to fans in keeping footy prices affordable and accessible as cost-of-living pressures continue to be front of mind for every household.

“We are really aware of the challenges everyone is facing; this is the sixth year in a row we have frozen GA prices – it is an important part of continuing to make the game as accessible as possible.”

There are 90 home and away matches spread across the 100,000-capacity MCG and 53,000-capacity Marvel Stadium during the upcoming season.

Tickets for the MCG will go on sale for club and AFL members on February 27 via Ticketek, while Marvel Stadium utilises Ticketmaster. The general public sale will then begin on February 28.

All 18 clubs set their own ticket prices for individual home and away matches, while the AFL has established a commercial arrangement with the MCG and AFL-owned Marvel Stadium for general admission and family ticket prices at these venues.

The AFL sets all ticket prices for the annual Gather Round and Finals Series.
