The Night Time Industries Association’s #LeaveNoOneBehind campaign has seen more than 5,000 representations urging Members of Parliament to advocate for a VAT reduction to 12.5%.

NTIA states that the campaign has ignited a “powerful wave of advocacy” across the United Kingdom following calls for tax to be lowered across hospitality and night-time economy sectors in the upcoming Spring Budget.

It claims that the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with restrictions and economic uncertainties, has pushed industries close to catastrophe.

“We cannot afford to leave any businesses behind in this Budget,” said NTIA chief executive Michael Kill.

“Failure to extend additional relief in the form of VAT over the coming 12 months could be catastrophic for many, as they grapple with unprecedented financial pressures.”

Research from the NTIA has found that 396 nightclubs have been forced to shut permanently since the first COVID-19 lockdown in the UK in March 2020. This represented 31% of the market.

The 5,000+ representations have come in the last three weeks alone before the Spring Budget is announced at 12:30pm local time tomorrow (Wednesday 6 March).

“The overwhelming support garnered by the #LeaveNoOneBehind Campaign underscores the depth of concern and determination within the industry,” read an NTIA statement.

“As the Budget approaches, voices from across the nation unite in a resounding call for measures that will provide essential lifelines to struggling businesses and ensure their continued survival.

“In the face of adversity, solidarity prevails. Together, we urge policymakers to heed the impassioned pleas of businesses and supporters nationwide and take decisive action to support the backbone of our economy.”
