Wigan Warriors has apologised to fans who encountered issues with tickets for last week’s Super League fixture against Huddersfield Giants at the 25,000-capacity DW Stadium.
At the end of last season, the rugby league side replaced the existing ticketing platform at its home venue, alongside co-tenants Wigan Athletic Football Club, with the new Ticketmaster Sport system.
However, the transition to the new platform happened later than planned in mid-December, therefore creating a short timescale to implement the system and process tickets.
The club explained that there were errors with imported data leading up to the game against Huddersfield which resulted in incorrect seats being allocated.
“Wigan Warriors would like to apologise to supporters who faced issues with tickets for the first home game of the 2024 Betfred Super League season against Huddersfield on Friday 1 March,” read a club statement.
Warriors added: “Ticketmaster Sport are currently investigating the cause of the misallocation of seats and will rectify the issue this week. We will then be in a position to fulfil all season tickets thereafter, well in advance of the next home fixture.
“Both Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic have made a significant investment in implementing the new ticketing platform and upgrading the access control system. Despite the problems that we encountered over the last few weeks, we remain confident that the revised solution will ensure that fans receive a positive ticketing experience in the longer term.
“We thank everyone for their support and patience during this transitional period.”
Warriors opted to issue single paper tickets for the match as a short-term solution, which proved successful as 15,357 people were in attendance to witness the 30-16 victory.
The partnership with Ticketmaster Sport focuses on digital fulfilment for tickets either through digital delivery or print-at-home tickets.
Fans are able to set up an account for both teams with transactions covering home and away games.
