Tokyo 2020 registration platform now live

The countdown to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics begins today with Japanese residents able to register their interest in tickets via the event’s online platform.

Organisers confirmed sports fans will be able to apply for tickets from next spring after today unveiling the event’s ticketing structure and price details.

With Visa being the exclusive payment technology partner of the Olympic Games, Visa will again be the only payment brand accepted on the Tokyo 2020 ticket website and at the ticket box offices.

Tokyo 2020 said tickets may only be purchased via authorised channels, and warned all prospective ticket purchasers “to be aware of unauthorised or potentially fraudulent ticket offerings.”

Organisers said half of tickets would cost less than JPY 8,000 (£50/$70/€60) with “millions of tickets at affordable prices”.

In a statement, organisers said: “There are a wide range of prices aimed at allowing as many people as possible to enjoy Olympic events.”

As previously reported, a symbolic ticket price of JPY 2,020 will be made available for families and groups resident in Japan whose members include children, senior citizens or individuals with impairments.

“This price will also be available in conjunction with a school programme targeting over one million students across Japan,” organisers explained.
