Ticketmaster Australia has reportedly refused to close its resale site despite the firm’s UK arm announcing earlier this week it would be shutting up shop.
Ticketmaster UK is to close GetMeIn! and Seatwave and launch a new fan-to-fan exchange after claiming “secondary sites just don’t cut it anymore”.
The ticketing giant’s ownership of the two resale sites has proved controversial, with many industry watchers and fans suggesting a too cosy relationship between the primary and secondary sector. In particular, music fans visiting Ticketmaster for face value tickets have long complained about being redirected to Get Me In! and Seatwave when concerts sell out in a short space of time.
Ticketmaster Australia reportedly told The New Daily that it would not be closing down its resale platform or introducing anti-scalping measures in the country. The website added that after asking a spokeswoman why no changes were being made, she allegedly refused to elaborate.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand Promoters Association has been lobbying the government about the issues within the secondary market.
President of the association, Brent Eccles, – who runs Eccles Entertainment and heads up Frontier Touring’s NZ operation – said he believes the closure of Ticketmaster Resale would be a step in the right direction, according the Industry Observer.
