Ticket machine on the right track by offering prizes

Train station ticket machines that often face the wrath of short-tempered commuters could soon feel much more loved thanks to a new initiative by Scotrail.

The rail operator has introduced a ticket machine called Flatterbox that offers commuters the chance to win days out in exchange for a compliment.

The voice-activated machine is housed at Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley train stations and customers can win excursions all this week by simply sharing what they love about their rival city. Prizes up for grabs in Glasgow include a trip to Edinburgh Zoo, while those buying tickets in Scotland’s capital can grab a free cycling session at The Emirates arena.

Nesta Gilliland, head of marketing and sales at ScotRail, said: “We know Glaswegians and Edinburghers genuinely love each other and their cities deep down – The Flatterbox gives them the opportunity to show it! We’re confident The Flatterbox will bring these two cities closer together.”
