Live Nation takes Wireless Festival to Germany

Live Nation’s Wireless Festival is to make its debut in Germany next summer and will be headlined by Justin Bieber and The Weekend.

The expansion of the UK pop, dance and urban music festival, which was first held in 2005, is the latest example of Live Nation taking successful events into new markets, with Download Madrid and Lollapalooza Paris both debuting in 2017.

Wireless Germany will be held at the 44,000-capacity Commerzbank Arena in Frankurt in June. The UK event is set to take place at Finsbury Park for the fourth consecutive year in 2017.

“The London Wireless Festival has been writing music history in Britain for over a decade,” reads an announcement by Live Nation. “With outstanding performances by the most popular urban and pop artists, it has become the most prestigious event of its kind.

“The line-up [for its premiere in Germany] offers everything a fan’s heart could desire, from the most important newcomers to classics and the biggest stars.”

Meanwhile, legendary US rock band Guns N’ Roses sold more than one million tickets in 24 hours as fans swooped for their 2017 shows in the UK, Europe and Canada. Tickets for the 20 European appearances and six Canadian concerts went on sale through Ticketmaster on Friday.

The band’s ‘Not in This Lifetime Tour’ has now sold more than three million tickets in 2016, making it the year’s most successful rock tour, according to Ticketmaster owner Live Nation. Total sales figures for the year were set to rise even further with tickets for their US gigs due to go on sale over the weekend.
