Huddle raises $11m to boost high school tickets business

High school sports ticket operator Huddle has raised $11m (£8.8m/€10.3m) in venture capital as it seeks to grow its GoFan platform.

The company, which merged with rival Preptix last year, shipped 140 million tickets in 2016 to more than 9,000 high schools in the US — or about 45 per cent of the nation’s senior academic institutions. Its total market could be worth $1bn when advertising revenue is taken into account.

Huddle, which raised the Series A from Atlanta-based BIP Capital, told the Atlanta Business Chronicle that it will invest the capital in product development and sales and marketing. The GoFan owner will more than double its workforce by adding about 50 jobs over the next several years.

“High schools are the fabric of communities,” said Joey Thacker, Huddle chief executive. “There’s a high school on every corner.”

Huddle’s tickets are customised to include school logos and regional and national advertisers.

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, BIP Capital’s Mark Buffington said consumers have shown a strong preference to use digital tickets and pay a convenience fee for airline travel, movies, concerts, professional and college sports events.
